CHICAGO (AP) — White Sox general manager Kenny Williams was joined by a trio of former Negro Leagues players as he addressed dozens of young, inner-city student-athletes on the need to preserve the history of Negro Leagues baseball.
The White Sox held a special forum Friday morning before the second annual Double Duty Classic, an All-Star game between inner-city high school baseball players from across the country.
The event is named after Ted “Double Duty” Radcliffe, who played for the Chicago American Giants and once pitched the first game of a doubleheader and caught the second game.
Before Williams took the floor, the former Negro Leagues players, Henry Passwood, Walter Owens and Ernest Westfield, took part in a question and answer session with the moderator, Washington Post columnist Michael Wilbon.
